How to Prepare for a Mammogram

Last updated 2 years ago

A mammogram offers a noninvasive way to screen for potential cancer growths within breast tissue. To ensure that your mammogram provides accurate results, your physician may make a few preparatory recommendations. For instance, you may be told to avoid the application of topical powders or creams, which may distort mammogram images.

Your peace of mind is also of utmost importance during a mammogram. The image-taking device must make direct contact with your skin; therefore, the medical staff will ask you to disrobe. To avoid any unnecessary discomfort, wear attire that will allow you to remain clothed from below the waist. Some women suffer breast tenderness in the days preceding menstruation. If you experience this symptom as well, you may want to make your mammogram appointment just after you finish your period.

Do you have more questions about your upcoming mammogram? Then call Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte at (888) 685-1599 to speak with one of our friendly representatives. We can address your concerns and offer additional screening suggestions for your care and comfort.
